چکیده

This chapter is devoted to the analysis of electron-ionization and -elimination processes at early stages of electric-discharge development in air at altitudes of mainly 0–90 km. In this chapter, ionization processes in an external electric field, as well as background ionization by fast particles and electron attachment and detachment with participation of atomic and molecular oxygen, are considered. Temperature and concentration dependences of rate constants are described. Analysis of ionization models allowing simplified approaches to detailed computation models is undertaken. It is shown that the electric breakdown process in air, under the influence of an external electric field, comprises several stages that are different with respect to different altitudes over the Earth. Numerical modeling on the basis of a detailed plasma chemical model, taking into account the heating of gas by the discharge, has shown that the relaxation processes leading to gas N.V. The considered phenomena can be convenient in the consideration of a highaltitude origination of natural discharges in fields of thunderstorm clouds.

Calibration of iridium-192 source by ionization chamber for high dose rate brachytherapy

Background: The effectiveness and safety of brachytherapy treatment is mainly concerned with the calibration of sources and their traceability to internationally accepted Standards. Secondary Standard Dosimetry Laboratory (SSDL) does not offer calibration of ionization chambers with gamma-ray spectrum of high dose rate source 192Ir . This work has been carried out to calibrate the high dose rat...

Standard calibration of ionization chambers used in radiation therapy dosimetry and evaluation of uncertainties

Background: Absolute dosimetry of external beam radiotherapy is carried out by the use of ionization chambers. These chambers must be calibrated at a standard dosimetry laboratory before any use in clinical dosimetry. The secondary standard dosimetry laboratory of Iran (SSDL) has the duty of calibrating the ionization chambers used in radiotherapy centers in Iran. Materials and Methods...

Determination of Synthetic Phenolic Antioxidants in Biological Fluids Based on Air-assisted Liquid-liquid Microextraction Followed by Gas Chromatography-flame Ionization Detection

An air–assisted liquid–liquid microextraction method for the extraction and preconcentration of trace amounts of some synthetic phenolic antioxidants in biological fluids followed by their determination by gas chromatography–flame ionization detection has been reported. In this method the target analytes are extracted into a few microliters of carbon tetrachloride (extraction solvent) from an a...

Propagation of intense short laser pulses in the atmosphere.

The propagation of short, intense laser pulses in the atmosphere is investigated theoretically and numerically. A set of three-dimensional (3D), nonlinear propagation equations is derived, which includes the effects of dispersion, nonlinear self-focusing, stimulated molecular Raman scattering, multiphoton and tunneling ionization, energy depletion due to ionization, relativistic focusing, and p...
